The challenge was simple: submit an innovative design for the living space that incorporates a strong sustainability element. That was the brief for the 2018 edition Mercedes-Benz Design Award, which for nearly half a decade has provided a platform to nurture the next generation of local design talent.

In the video above, 2018 winner Zachary Hanna walks us through the practical components of Stack, his streamlined lamp-bookshelf-side table hybrid. From the sturdy use of solid timber and a plywood shade to the presence of long-lasting LED light, every aspect has been executed with sustainability in mind. After winning the prestigious contest, Hanna has seen his idea became a reality through close collaboration with the product development team at Cult Design, where the limited-edition lamp is now on sale.
