Sydney label Bed Threads is moving from your bedroom into your kitchen, with the launch of its new tableware line Spreads. by Bed Threads. Made from the same 100 per cent French flax linen as its cult quilt covers, sheets and pillowcases, the range of tablecloths, placemats and napkins is available in signature Bed Threads colours, including rust, olive, oatmeal, sage and lavender. Founder Genevieve Rosen says launching the line was a natural step for the brand, which launched in 2017.

“We started seeing people tag us in the most beautiful tablescapes on Instagram – they were repurposing our flat sheets as tablecloths,” she tells Broadsheet. “Moving into the kitchen (especially after the response to our bathroom range earlier this year) was something we had thought about for a while, and the in-built interest from our community gave us the inspiration to really work on something special.”

Like the company’s other products, the new range has been created with affordability in mind – it is $50 for a set of four napkins, $60 for four placemats and from $100 for tablecloths.

“Ultimately, our mission is and always has been to make luxurious and accessible homewares available to everyone, and there was a gaping hole in the market for linen tableware like ours.”

If you’re lacking for pretty things to decorate your jazzed-up table settings with, Bed Threads has more good news: it’s also curated a new selection of table accessories, adding to its homewares collection, which already features the likes of Dinosaur Designs, Formantics and Rachel Saunders.

Rosen has sourced colourful hand-blown glass tumblers, brightly painted ceramic plates and stainless-steel cutlery from Italian label Bitossi Home; the Bitossi family has been selling ceramics in Tuscany since the 16th century. There are also vibrant hand-blown carafes and cups from New York designer Anna Karlin and new additions to Bed Threads’ collection of Dinosaur Designs pieces. And coming soon is a range of glassware from New York-based designer Sophie Lou Jacobsen – an Australian exclusive for Bed Threads.

“Every single item in our homewares, bath and beauty and now tableware range I use personally and live with in my own home,” says Rosen. “I try things for months before I confidently offer them to our community; although for all the wares in our range I knew intuitively the first time I saw them that they were special.

“What I love the most about this range is that everything works together. There are enough colours, shapes and tones that people are able to express themselves, their taste and personal style with the range on offer. Entertaining is a huge part of my life and these pieces are ultimately there to complement the warmth and happiness sharing a meal with loved ones gives us.”

The new launches follow on from the brand’s well-timed release of a loungewear line in July and bathroom towels not long after. It first dipped its toe into ceramics last year.
