The Commons Is Opening Its First Health Club With a Bathhouse, Pilates Classes and More

Our collective focus on living well is more than just a passing trend. From how and where we work to what takes up most of our leisure time, physical and mental wellbeing is an increasingly important consideration for many Aussies – the domestic wellness industry is currently valued at more than $45 billion. And The Commons has taken note: it’s set to launch a health-club offering that taps into both movement and mindfulness practices.
The popular co-working space, which has 19 locations across Melbourne and Sydney, is launching its debut Commons Health Club, a hybrid co-working and wellness space, in Richmond in September. And it’s following up with a second South Yarra Health Club in January 2026.
The Commons Health Club will offer many perks – including a members’ lounge, a gym, fitness studios and a street-fronted cafe, plus community events like bathhouse socials with DJs and live music. It might just be Melbourne’s largest social wellness club, set across an expansive 5000 square metres.
All that space calls for plenty of activities. There’ll be more than 200 weekly classes, including workouts like yoga, spin, aerobics, dance, strength training, reformer and hot mat Pilates, and more. Once you’ve got your heart rate up, bring it back down with relaxing sessions of candlelit yin yoga, breathwork, sound baths and meditation. Personal trainers will also be on hand to help you monitor your progress and reach your health goals.
Recovery is just as important as training, so there’s a big focus on relaxing treatments, too. The bathhouse will make you feel more Scandinavian than a cinnamon scroll, offering magnesium-infused baths, an 8-degree cold plunge pool, sauna, steam room and heated stone benches. Plus, there are recovery-geared treatments like red light therapy and lymphatic compression. Afterwards, make the most of luxurious small touches like the fully stocked perfume and cologne bar, and private laundry service.
If you’ve walked into any of its co-working spaces, you’ll know The Commons has the design down pat. The fit-out will come from architecture and design studio DesignOffice. Cliff Ho, CEO and co-founder of The Commons, says it will stray from the conventional muted tones you’ve seen in all the wellness spaces and bathhouses popping up across Melbourne. Instead, it’ll feature cork, timber and concrete with warm and playful colours.
Ho says The Commons, which opened in Collingwood in 2016, is on a mission to support the physical and mental wellbeing of members. “We’re seeing a real shift, especially among younger generations, towards valuing holistic health and more balanced work lives,” he said in a statement. “We’re proud to be at the forefront of this evolution bringing together work and wellness in a way that … aligns with the flexibility of today’s work style and the needs of the modern individual.”
The only problem? You’ll have to remember to leave.
The Commons Health Club opens in Richmond in September, and in South Yarra in January 2026. Foundation memberships are available now, starting at $79 per week for fitness only and $119 per week for fitness and bathhouse access. Members will have access to both spaces.
