Watch: From Beauty Therapy to Building Boutique B&Bs

As soon as Aimee Stanton began studying beauty therapy, she realised it wasn’t the right fit. So she took a risk and got her Certificate II in plumbing at Swinburne, also learning carpentry, flooring and painting along the way.
All of those skills now come into play as she and her brother Ben build boutique B&Bs from scratch for their DIY business venture Tiny Stays. Inviting guests to “disconnect from it all and reconnect with nature”, the Stantons’ solar-powered, off-the-grid accommodation provides picturesque views of the Yarra Valley, without sacrificing the luxuries we all want when we get away.
In the video above, Aimee reminds us that we don’t need to feel limited to a single career or study path. If she hadn’t changed course to plumbing, Tiny Stays would never have become a reality. “Starting my own business was the best decision I ever made,” she says.
