Peregrine Ridge
Features
Peregrine Ridge has one of the most striking cellar doors you’ll ever visit. It juts out from the top of a hill like a giant rock. Grand, floor-to-ceiling windows frame a jaw-dropping view over the Goulburn Valley and the vineyards below. On clear days, it’s possible to see as far as Mount Buller. Architect Nick Marino wanted the building to appear as though it was rising from the earth. It’s safe to say he got his wish.
Peregrine Ridge specialises in Shiraz, a grape perfectly suited to the climate and iron-rich Cambrian soils of Heathcote. A standard tasting here includes a sample of its non-vintage sparkling, the Shearstone, the American oak blend and the limited-release French oak Shiraz varieties. Try the vintage, fortified shiraz for an exceptional dessert wine.
Winemaker Graham Quigley is always on hand to explain the different flavours and textures imparted by the different barrels and soils. He favours an analytical approach to wine-making, born from a background in engineering.
You can pair a wine tasting with a regional platter, stacked with local charcuterie, cheese and accoutrements. For vegans, there’s a pesto and dip platter. Gluten-free diets are also catered for.
