Trumpy brings four hospitality veterans together in one game-winning hand. The cosy, fire-lit bar was initiated by Jay Rayner (Shadow Electric) and Jamie McEntee. Later, they were joined by bartenders Andrew Leonedas and Guy Barker.
Like the team itself, the converted warehouse is quietly confident; more concerned with doing simple things well than breaking new ground.
This attitude is reflected in the concise list of beers and whiskies, which broadly represent the current market without shining a light in every far-flung corner, and continues all the way down to the range of lesser-known classic cocktails. Wines push the boundaries a little more. Unusually for the area, Trumpy has a 3am license, so there’s plenty of time to explore the selection.
With upbeat tunes resonating in the lofty ceilings and a buzzy local vibe, it’s easy to feel at home. Or stick around for dinner. Small bites such as olives and chicken-liver parfait will ease you into it. Things ramp up with grilled octopus and nashi pear; ricotta-and-saltbush rotolo; Cone Bay Barrmundi; and slow-braised lamb with artichokes and pecorino.
