Features
Chris Waack bought his famous bakery after seeing a one-line ad in The Stawell Times News. Over 10 years he transformed the bakery from run down to award winning, and opened two more outlets in Ararat and Horsham.
On one side of the space there’s freshly baked bread and trays of hot cross buns, vanilla slices, meringues and cupcakes. A golden pie oven glows with flaky pastry. Lamb shank- and red-wine is just one of the many pie options.
On the other side there’s a trophy cabinet and a wall of framed certificates. Best Vanilla Slice, Best Hot Cross Buns and Best Meat Pie are just three awards that the bakery repeatedly wins. There’s also a framed newspaper article about a half-kilometre lamington Waacks Bakery once made to delight the town.
