PlaneTrees Lodge
Located on the former site of an old timber mill is PlaneTrees Lodge. It’s a log cabin set among two hectares of verdant trees and exquisite gardens. Owner/architect Genevieve Milham lovingly restored and extended the property, planting out the lush surrounding garden, minus a few original towering gums.
The lodge is made from douglas fir logs and compacted earth. It sleeps four to 10 people across four bedrooms. There are two spacious downstairs retreats with comfy king-size beds, and two attic-style quarters upstairs. There’s also a two-person suite adjacent to the Provençal-style main villa for smaller parties.
A skylight casts a soft glow over the downstairs shower; and windows in the bathroom upstairs let you gaze at the treetops while enjoying a soak in the tub. The fireplace is ready to go upon arrival, making the lounge a toasty spot for reclining with a good book and glass of wine.
There’s a full kitchen, with breakfast provisions at hand (including homemade jam), which you can enjoy outside in one of the several sunny nooks Milham purposely crafted.
Each bedroom looks out onto the gardens, with robes and extra blankets making it tricky to leave such cosy comfort during the colder months. But you should – outside there’s the veggie patch, mulberry vines, olive trees and flower gardens to explore.
The natural swimming pool is a highlight in the warmer months, and Zsa Zsa the miniature dachshund can usually be found trotting about.
