Features
Nightbird is tucked away out of sight in South Yarra’s Godby Hotel. But the intimate, 60-person listening bar is a venue in its own right, a total contrast to the grandeur of Godby, beyond Nightbird’s secret pivoting doors. The hidden cocktail den was inspired by New York’s 1920s speakeasy bars.
Inside, the walls are dark, the lights are low and the ceiling is lower – the textured acoustic treatment on the rounded ceiling makes it feel like you’re partying inside a fuzzy train carriage. You’ll also find a DJ booth, designed to prevent low-frequency transfer into the turntables, as well as an Allen & Heath Xone:96 mixer with Martin Audio CDD15 loudspeakers and dual SX215 subwoofers.
The idea here is to kick on after a session at Godby, drink a few cocktails and dance the night away. And it’s a pretty good idea.
