Ingrid Verner had been in the Australian fashion game for a while before opening this store, first as one half of cult label TV (with Monika Tywanek) from 2006 to 2011, before launching her eponymous label in 2012.
The shop is inside the Mitchell House building, where Verner has had her design studio for the past six years. It was designed with friend Jane Caught of Sibling architects and the most is made of the small space by adding interesting flourishes such as a rubberised floor and a wall made from perforated, powder-coated corrugated iron.
The philosophy behind pieces in any Verner collection is embracing fashion in Australia that is more appropriate to our casual culture, but that doesn’t sacrifice style. Collections include a luxurious aesthetic, with simple lines, high-quality fabric and innovative shapes. Verner takes easy, soft, everyday pieces and gives them a glamorous aspect. As well as being directional, payful and current, Verner also has your wardrobe staples – that keep giving season after season – under control.
