Features

Scout House radiates rustic charm via European antiques and handcrafted Australian furniture. Owner Orlando Mesiti aims to reduce the environmental impact of manufacturing by providing furniture and homewares of the highest quality. He prefers hardy natural materials. Each piece is built to last, rather than being thrown out in two years.

Mesiti has a particular fondness for visiting France, Belgium and Holland to source vintage pieces for his store. The industrial space is filled with European antiques ranging from large library cabinets to other bric-a-brac.

Scout House also offers bespoke furniture including beds, dining tables, armchairs and sofas. Mesiti strictly uses Australian materials in his made-to-order furniture. Everything down to the plastic stopper on the foot of the beds is Australian-made. These one-of-a-kind pieces embody countryside style. Don’t expect square lines and minimalist Scandinavian design. Scout House isn’t afraid to use colour either – when custom-designing your bed, you can choose from 120 shades.

The mix of all things home includes everything from French pine breadboards to mid-century planters. The store also stocks ceramics by Bridget Bodenham, shelves by Bride and Wolfe, home fragrances by Cire Trudon and kitchenware by Falcon Enamelware.
