Post Industrial Design
Keep walking past the clusters of retail shops and you'll eventually find your way to Post Industrial Design in a largely residential strip. It's located rather oddly for a combined retail and gallery space, yet the surrounding suburban scenery expresses its enthusiasm for supporting local talent.
Jos Van Hulsen and his partner Mary Long are the advocates who have set up this eclectic space in their own neighbourhood of West Footscray. Jos’ personal creations made from recycled or re-worked materials set the scene and tone, which Mary compliments with locally sourced designers and makers. Collectively, they articulate a strong element of sustainability. To support this, a bimonthly calendar of exhibitions is integrated into the shop space. It offers a further outlet for the promotion of the talents of others.
It would be hard to deny the dedication this couple bring to this collaborative and uniquely realised retail and gallery space. Presenting its painstakingly chosen homewares, objects and furniture against white walls in an open and light-filled space, Post Industrial Design is a store defined by passion and care.
