OTC Vintage Fitzroy
Vintage styles go in and out of fashion. Take ’70s flares, ’80s shoulder pads or ’90s sweatshirts. They’ve all been revived over the years, and eventually go back into fashion obscurity as the next trend picks up. The same is true of vintage stores. Very few remain relevant, popular (and open) over a long period. OTC Vintage is one of the few in Melbourne that’s managed it over decades.
Since the early ’90s, it’s sold vintage from Australia, the US and Europe on Brunswick Street (and helped make the strip one of the city’s premier vintage destinations). Here, you’ll mostly find ’80s and ’90s pieces, with a few special ’60s and ’70s numbers mixed in. That includes denim, swimsuits, miniskirts, track packs, Hawaiian shirts and western snap-button shirts, as well as vintage shoes like Converses, Timberlands and original cowboy boots.
Its love for yesteryear can be seen on the changeroom walls, which are lined with tie-dyed vintage music tees, from a Jimi Hendrix number to an Eric Clapton tee from ’98. The walls are plastered with vintage and contemporary music posters, a nod to co-owner David Lydiate’s love for music.
