Monte specialises in one thing: slippers. But these aren't just any slippers. They bridge the gap between cosy house slippers and socially-accepted outdoor footwear, finding a sweet spot between the humble hotel slide and the regal Prince Albert slipper.

If your wardrobe’s missing a pair of street-proof loafers – ones that are lined in buttery soft velvet – then you might want to visit the brand’s light-filled, Cremorne store location. In it, you’ll find a colourful line-up of unisex slippers, designed to be worn straight from the sofa, to the pub.

The idea for the label devoted to the slip-on came to founder Lib Hutton while she was cleaning the house and noticed her partner and co-founder Will Carter had accumulated a collection of cheap hotel slippers. For Monte, she turned to the classic Prince Albert loafer for design inspiration – a shoe originally worn in the 19th century by people entertaining at home.

Fitted out by interior designer Sophie Davies, the shop is shared alongside local womenswear label Ryder, and is decked in finishes that integrate both labels seamlessly. An armchair has been reupholstered to match Monte’s green velvet slipper, and the shoe console was handmade by Davies.
