Fatto a Mano
Features
Fatto a Mano organic bakery is, for want of a better term, a northside institution and the perfect spot to quell any kind of hunger. An explosion of premises-baked loaves of bread, pizza, and sweets – all organic and many gluten-free – lures passersby. The lunchtime queue here is something to behold.
Try a vegetable pastie, chunky pie, Thai chicken sausage roll or slice of pizza topped with potato and olives or mushroom and pancetta. Baguettes are popular, as are a range of sugar fixes – from the rocky road and coffee scrolls to the Danish pastries. While seating is scarce, this is more a get-in-and-get-out breakfast and lunch takeaway spot.
Fatto a Mano also supplies plenty of establishments around town (including neighbouring cafe Birdman Eating) with its wholesome gluten-free breads (pumpkin loaf, multi-seed). The bread has a soft and moist interior with a crunchy and delicious crust; making it ideal for sandwiches, or even just for picking at straight from the bag as you wander up Gertrude Street.
