The cosy cushions and vintage bedspreads that line the walls of this store make you feel as if you’ve stumbled into a fragment of the past. But don’t be mistaken: while Cottage Industry is craft and DIY focused, this place is not exclusively for nannas and crafters. With a strong background in textile design, owner Pene Durston is motivated by the sense of independence and liberation that we gain when we know more about the products we buy.
Offering handmade items, from cushions and blankets to dresses and knitted caps covered in Australian flora and fauna, Cottage Industry’s vintage-inspired aesthetic has an equally modern sensibility. Almost all the products are designed and made in-house (under the Cottage Industry or Penelope Durston tags), with additional products sourced from functional brands like Cambridge Satchel and Douglas Sandals.
Whether you’re looking for a thoughtful gift with a tongue-in-cheek edge or a delicate handmade dress or quilt, Cottage Industry provides items made with equal parts entertainment and quality.
We do not seek or accept payment from the cafes, restaurants, bars and shops listed in the Directory – inclusion is at our discretion. Venue profiles are written by independent freelancers paid by Broadsheet.
