Backyard Beekeeping Ballarat
Ever wondered what it takes to keep bees in your backyard? Join the growing number of bee-curious suburbanites by taking a four-hour Introduction to Backyard Beekeeping course.
A Secret Lives of Bees course (two hours) is an ideal option. You can come to an open hive experience geared up in suits, veils and beekeeping gloves. Then see how you cope with 50,000 bees flying round your head.
Beekeepers Amanda Collins and Scott Denno will take you through the intricacies of the hive and teach you how to identify the different components. Learn which bees are the workers and the drones, meet the queen, see baby bees being born and taste the honeycomb.
The shop is open on Saturday mornings selling seasonal honey, beekeeping supplies and beeswax, which is surprisingly versatile and can be used in hair, deodorant and lip balm.
