Audacious Monk Cellars

The Audacious Monk fits Preston like a glove. David Vasilliou and Caz Scholz opened the bottleshop and bar in 2016, after converting a shabby, dilapidated pharmacy. These days it feels like a mature sharehouse, where you can hang out and try something new.

Vassiliou’s colourful background in live theatre is on show throughout the spacious interior. Theatre memorabilia vies for attention with an all-star cast of local craft beers (two are always available on tap); fine wines from home and abroad; and an array of artisanal spirits.

Every week The Audacious Monk hosts tastings featuring local wineries and breweries. Nuts and other nibbles are available, or you can order in something more substantial from any of the surrounding restaurants.

The affable Vassiliou is always up for a chat with those flying solo; and young families and newbies to the neighbourhood can expect an especially warm welcome.
