Crompton Coffee started life as a toast cafe.

Under new owner Kelly Vu, the concept is a little more standard. The menu includes a range of sweet and savoury toasties; cold sandwiches; and brunch classics such as Bircher muesli and eggs Benedict.

Espresso comes from Small Batch, and there are free refills on batch-brew and tea, a nice touch.

The 20-seat space was created with the help of Edwards Moore architects. It’s a smart example of dado sensibility, with dark floors and padded chairs seguing to blonde plywood ceilings, giving the solid old corner site and adjoining courtyard a sense of reasonable size.
