Zigfrids
A blend of industrial features and op-shop furniture make Zigfrids a stylish but comfortable restaurant. The building was last used as a panel beater, remnants of which can still be found, if you look. Details include chains, exposed brick and half an old garage door. Fur throws and leather couches bring a touch of old-school glamour.
Owners Richard and Donna Flanders also run Beav’s Bar, a popular drinks and live music spot. Though they didn’t have much experience with food, they felt compelled to open Zigfrids after visiting similar venues in London.
The communal menu features Middle Eastern-inspired dishes such as slow-cooked lamb shoulder with pilaf; ricotta dumplings with pine nuts; and grilled quail with baba ganoush. Breakfast is served on weekends.
The beer garden out front is bigger than the restaurant itself. It’s a real drawcard on balmy summer nights. A cosy mezzanine level provides comfort away from the crowds.
The wide-ranging drinks list includes plenty of cocktails; several beers on tap; and wines from local producers such as Oakdene, Lethbridge, Baie Wines and Marcus Hill.
The restaurant is a popular function space, having hosted many a birthday, wedding and reception since opening in February 2014.
