Since 2012, Touché Hombre has been one of the city’s best places to start a nightlong fiesta. It’s kept to its winning formula: the tables are long; the food is shareable, and vivid graffiti and Tijuana-style neon still light up the walls.

When owner Davis Yu opened Touché Hombre’s sister bar, Mezcalito, next door at the end of 2016, it gave Touché breathing room and the opportunity to focus more on dining. The result is a fun, contemporary Mexican menu.

For shareable snacks, there’s rockling and scallop ceviche or goats cheese and jalapeno croquettes, rolled and fried with tapioca. Highlights from the taco menu include the twice-cooked octopus on a blue corn tortilla and the Al Pastor pork with habanero salsa.

There are more than 80 tequilas. They’re available in curated flights, or in cocktails such as the Mai Taiquila or the Rye Sense of Humour, as well as the sizable Margarita offering. For wines there’s local reds and whites, with some imports from France and Spain. Mexican favourites Dos Equis, Negra Modelo and Tecate are on the beer list, and there’s Two Birds’ Taco Beer on tap.
