Pizza Religion Armadale
The third Pizza Religion is much like its predecessors in Hawthorn East and Malvern. It champions a thin crust and non-traditional flavours. This is not your nonna’s pizza. You’ll still find a classic Margherita, capricciosa and pepperoni on the menu. But they sit alongside more inventive combinations.
The spiced chicken with pico di gallo, basil and jalapeño aioli packs a punch. The pork- and veal-meatball pizza with pecorino is a spin on an Italian classic. And an option with asparagus, goats curd, walnut and egg is a welcome change for vegetarians. But after several years, the crowd favourite remains the 18-hour beef cheek, cauliflower puree and truffle oil.
This site opened in late 2016 and has a look all of its own. Exposed brick, timber, brass and blue leather give it a sharp yet relaxed feel. The open kitchen lets you watch it all happen – which may or may not be a good thing, depending on how hungry you are.
