Features
Located fittingly in the repurposed Pentridge Prison’s former mess hall, North & Common is an elegant restaurant inside the Adina Pentridge Apartment Hotel that's open for lunch and dinner.
The prison’s original bluestone walls and hardwood rafters contrast with modern touches including porcelain-tiled floors, white stone countertops and terracotta-coloured seats for up to 180 guests. Combined with a 10-metre-high ceiling, it all makes for a relaxed and elegant space, and served as inspiration behind executive chef Mark Glenn’s (ex- Cumulus Inc and Dinner by Heston) produce-driven menu.
The offering changes seasonally, and might include raw tuna with broad beans and wild garlic; spanner crab risoni with tarragon and a shellfish emulsion; and proteins including slow-roasted Flinders Island lamb shoulder and O'Connor's beef sirloin with accompaniments.
Cocktails include coffee spritzes and truffle and sun-dried tomato Martinis. Meanwhile, the wine list by sommelier Liinaa Berry – who also leads the ship at the adjoining wine bar Olivine – covers both playful and more serious drops. Diners can also choose from Olivine’s list of over 500 bottles.
