Miss Pearl Bar & Dining
A visit to Miss Pearl is like a tasting tour through the cuisines of Asia. Inspired by the flavours of Japan, Thailand and Vietnam (and with visitors to the Melbourne Arts Precinct in mind), this contemporary diner at Southbank Theatre has you covered with a a variety of menus to suit any occasion.
Between the snacks, sides and big-flavoured share plates, it’s not hard to spot the influences here. Head chef Sushil Aryal (ex-Cumulus Inc, Vue De Monde, Spice Temple) has curated a region-roving menu starring crispy tofu with banana blossom and fried tofu skin; miso-roasted cauliflower; and a Jack’s Creek flat iron steak with seaweed butter and togarashi-spiced fries. For dessert, it might be lychee and rose granita, or condensed milk flan with banana and coconut.
Three affordable banquet menus (including a vegetarian option) showcase Miss Pearl’s signature dishes, plus there’s a set pre-theatre dining menu on hand for those wanting to eat-and-run before a show. Wednesday to Saturday, diners can also enjoy an express menu with a glass of beer or wine included.
To complement the kitchen, the cocktail list also takes in plenty of Asian influences. The Siam Siam mixes chilli-infused tequila with ginger, lemongrass and mango syrup, while the Jungle Bird is a spin on the classic tiki drink with the addition of lychee liqueur.
Spot the red neon signage and you’ll know you’ve arrived. But the warm lighting and cosy booths are so inviting you might not want to leave – even if it means missing the show.
