Lucky Chan
6:00pm - 10:00pm
A bamboo motif runs through this Cantonese restaurant, from the many plants that line the outdoor area (with views of the Yarra River) to the wall panelling around the entrance from Crown Casino and the single lucky bamboo on the bar that greets you when you walk in.
At lunch there’s yum cha service but no carts rolling around; instead all dim sum (such as braised chicken feet, siu mai and prawn har gow) is cooked fresh to order. For dinner there are dishes to share, such as spicy kung pao chicken, sweet and sour pork and black truffle fried rice.
The front bar is well-stocked and makes around a dozen cocktails, including classic Singapore Slings and Strawberry Daiquiris. Or skip the alcohol and go more traditional with a pot of steaming jasmine tea.
The space is reminiscent of a mansion in Shanghai from the 1920s. It’s a mix of old and new, with a sleek fit-out, glistening marble floors and modern wall fixtures contrasted with antique décor.
