Huon Hill Hotel
Features
Don’t be fooled by the TAB signage out front, this is no white-light, pot‘n’parma den. Built in 2013, Huon Hill Hotel is a gastro pub with a modern menu and full table service. The pub is connected via an undercover walkway to Quest Apartments. If you’re a guest there, you can eat at Huon Hill and charge it back to your room.
While it might court the corporate crowd, the pub is warm and welcoming for casual travellers, with a gas fire and an extensive wrap-around outdoor terrace.
The lamb rump is a favourite, served with a potato and sour cream mash, followed closely by the chicken breast. The barramundi is another bestseller. Fruit and vegetables are all local and the meat comes from the butcher down the road. Look out for the chef’s nightly selections (a past highlight includes braised pork belly with parsnip puree, charred zucchini and Dutch carrots). Fear not, you can still find a classic parma on the menu.
The drinks menu champions locally-produced spirits, so the “G” in your G&T will probably come from a nearby player, such as Billson’s Gin, in Beechworth. Local wines and craft brews round out the offering.
You won’t be pulling an all-nighter here: proceedings usually finish up at a very civilised time. If you’re looking to kick on, head to The Goods Shed nearby.
