Fatto
Fatto Bar & Cantina is the perfect spot for dinner before or after a show at neighbouring Hamer Hall. Thankfully, it’s not one of those restaurants that just relies on its location to pull customers. Service is chatty and attentive; the drinks are reasonably priced; and the food is on par with that found in many other classic Italian restaurants in Melbourne.
If you’re here before a show, you’re restricted to a two- or three-course set menu, which lets you choose from a handful of small dishes; pastas and other mains; and desserts. Otherwise, stretch the meal out with charcuterie, sides and substantial mains ordered a la carte style. And don’t forget an Aperol or Campari to start, then maybe a bottle of Australian or Italian wine.
In-demand firm Projects of Imagination is responsible for the restaurant's design, which consists of bright-white tiles, lightboxes and judicious use of neon. It's a nice, buzzy room, but weather permitting the best seats are outside, overlooking the Yarra.
