This cellar door, restaurant and day spa is set in the hills of Drouin East, making for a quiet jaunt outside of busy Warragul.
Indoors, it’s anything but quiet. There’s a range of aesthetics, from dark nooks sprayed with street-art, to function rooms that mimic the grandeur of Versailles. The deck is a lovely spot to enjoy a glass of house sparkling on a sunny afternoon. There are three types – pinot gris, rosé and tempranillo.
The winery grows five acres of pinot noir, pinot gris, pinot meunier and tempranillo on site, and sources sauvignon blanc, chardonnay and shiraz from other vineyards. There’s a day spa up the hill if you need to rub away the daily grind of city life. Accommodation is also to come.
On normal days, there’s Spanish food coming out of the kitchen, but the restaurant occasionally hosts special events such as a Sri Lankan buffet or meaty South American churrasco evenings.
Start your eating journey with tapas such as seafood empanadas; fried manchego cheese with apricot sauce; and crispy duck with spicy orange and saffron sauce. Then it’s onto heartier numbers such as beef cheeks braised in wine and served with fried cauliflower. The menu is gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan considerate. Five different pans of steaming paellas fill the restaurant with rich aromas one Sunday a month if you’re in the mood to really feast.
The kitchen sources some of its produce from the on-site market garden, which also features various fruit, nut and olive trees.
