Boston Sub is a sister venue to the nearby American-themed cocktail bar, Kid Boston. The main offering is subs and poutine, the Canadian version of fries topped with gravy and cheese curds. Heaping portions of pulled pork, beef or roasted vegetables on top, and crunchy coleslaw or pickles on the side, will make for a satisfyingly messy fix for the late-night munchies.

But there’s more. Open up the coolroom door behind the sandwich counter and you’ll discover a secret entrance into a hidden cocktail bar, Jungle Boy. Its dim lighting, hanging plants, snarling animal heads on the walls and cocktails served in tiki mugs will make you feel like you’re at a tropical-themed house party.

Owners Ryan Simpson and Adam Paurini, previously of The Croft Institute and Jacques Reymond respectively, were inspired by the quiet dive bars and speakeasies of New York.

Despite the seemingly obscure choice of themes for this two-in-one venue, somehow the combination of Canadian hot chips, New York-inspired subs and a tiki bar really works.
