Monique Thomas and Olivia Mangan are the duo behind Goodbyes, a Melbourne-born consignment store that helps you shop high-quality second-hand clothing first. They started it in Brunswick in 2015, before opening shops in Collingwood and Prahran, and eventually further afield in Adelaide, Canberra and Hobart.

The clothing and accessories group aims to make shopping second-hand more desirable than buying new. Its hybrid consignment model – where staff consign clothing donated by the public – means it can offer a broad range of quality pieces at fair price points. And it’s working: in addition to this location and the Brunswick original, there are now stores in Collingwood, Canberra and Hobart.

This location is the biggest in Melbourne, and being in a particularly affluent area, its stock leans on the slightly higher end, often having a selection of archival designer clothing on its racks and accessories in its cabinets. Elsewhere there are Australian and New Zealand labels, genuine vintage and well-made basics in masculine and feminine styles. The stock rotates regularly so expect to find new pieces on each visit.

The shop has an industrial chic design, with exposed ceilings, dark-grey floors and minty green accents throughout. Floor-to-ceiling windows showcase highlights from the store’s current offering, hanging the silhouettes from chains.
