Club Social is more than just a place to get bacon and eggs.
They are, of course, on the menu – alongside more interesting dishes such as a breakfast black-rice nasi goreng. But Jesse Feldy (who recently sold Gardiner & Field and Frank & Ginger) wants his newest cafe to feel more like a social club.
There’s a 10-metre-long deck out the front, and concertina doors, which open right up. Inside, white-timber walls, concrete panels, a kitsch neon egg on the wall and a tiled floor combine to create, in Feldy’s words, a “modern, yet beach-housey feel”.
The menu is broken up into sections such as “toast”, which includes filled croissants and jaffles, and “bowls”, including stewed fruit with chai and honey, and a breakfast ramen.
In between there are vegan vanilla-bean hot cakes, a king-crab benedict and Jewish-style “Bubi’s chicken soup”.
Drinks include chai, matcha and golden lattes. Coffee is by Symmetry Roasters, and teas by Larsen & Thompson.
