Rose Diner and Cafe is a light, open space with green highlights, timber features, small intimate tables and large communal ones. While the space retains some of the building's original art deco touches, it's benefited greatly from the undeniably modern reinvention.

NZ-born Head Chef, Jaron Balsom (ex Woolshed) is behind the food and has a penchant for the glory cuisine of yesteryear. It’s the food from your childhood, but executed to a much higher quality, with Balson admitting his love for the Country Women’s Association and drawing inspiration from their nostalgic cooking. This is reflected in menu items like Coronation Chicken vol-au-vents, Mum’s Trifle and Sunday roasts. We recommend the Welsh Rarebit Croquettes with pickled tomato and raisins and the Steak Diane with brandy, mustard and shallot. And if you have any room left, order the Bread and Butter Pudding.

Drinks feature the Little Creatures range on tap along with other local and boutique beers. Wines are kept local and a few nostalgic cocktails make an appearance.

The sister cafe next door, Little Rose, is open for breakfast and lunch, with Syndicate Coffee served alongside jaffles, baked eggs and milkshakes.

All in all, it's a rather rosy affair in the Port.
