Pull off the Hume and discover the food, drink and stunning countryside of Albury Wodonga and surrounds. In partnership with Visit Victoria, here’s our guide on where to eat, drink and stay.

Victoria’s border city of Albury Wodonga has become home for passionate entrepreneurs, foodies and winemakers, making it a destination rather than a landmark on the Hume.

“New” Albury Wodonga is centred around the redeveloped Junction Place. The former railway station and railyards have been reactivated as a thriving public space – Australia’s largest urban renewal project. Here you’ll find a waterpark, a playground, cafes, craft beer, fine dining restaurants and shipping containers dishing out authentic street-food.

The city is also a gateway to the mountains, with rail trails branching off into the High Country, and a great base for exploring three diverse regions. It’s also a centre of cultural history, dotted with museums and monuments documenting everything from multiculturalism to Australia’s military history overseas. Visit wineries in the countryside or stay in historic farmhouses with views to Mount Bogong.

Albury Wodonga is about three and a half hours up the Hume from Melbourne, and there’s never been a better time to pull off the highway and get to know the region.
