Pizza Meine Liebe (German for "Pizza my love") rode in on the wave of simple, modern and produce-driven pizza restaurants that came to the city a few years back, but unlike many of them, it's still here. You’ll find thin, slightly chewy pizza bases, topped with clever combinations of high-quality ingredients and wood-fired to perfection. The menu provides a fresh take on old favourites but isn’t afraid of dabbling in the eccentric and kooky. A few seasonal salads and calzones round out the savoury offerings with panna cotta and sweet pizzas for those with room for desert.

Pizza Meine Liebe buzzes on any night of the week; one visit makes it clear why the place is such a hit with locals, though at times its popularity threatens to interfere with the dining experience. If eating in, bookings are highly recommended. If you’d rather forgo the sometimes slow and indifferent service and ‘60s decor, takeaway is always an option. However, we recommended heading next door to Joe’s Shoe Store where you can have your Pizza Meine Liebe with a pint.

Pizza Meine Liebe remains one of the better options for a well-priced, produce-driven pizza meal in Melbourne and its success has spawned For the Love of Pizza, a sister restaurant further up High Street.
