Barry’s light-filled interior and clean white walls are a welcoming sight to passers-by who are perhaps on their way to the Palace Westgarth Cinema next door or Terra Madre, the organic food store along the same stretch of High Street.
The interior fit-out by Techne Architects has both functionality and good looks in mind. Wall-to-wall custom shelving and crates function as drawers underneath the coffee counter, while also as serving as bright spots for the potted plants lining the wall.
Recognising the neighbours’ penchant for healthy foods, the menu is health conscious without sacrificing on taste. Gluten-free breakfast options include granola with poached fruit, and a Thai coconut sago pudding with mango, lime syrup and strawberries. The salads will satisfy carnivores and vegans alike, while the towering Wagyu beef burger and Korean chicken kimchi sub are nothing to sneeze at.
Coffee is by 5 Senses, made on a slick custom-made Synesso or on pour over or Aeropress.
