We all love a good cocktail, but sometimes the thought of making one ourselves can be more than a little daunting. Spirits, mixers, equipment, technique – there’s so much to get right, and even more that can go wrong. But mixing drinks shouldn't be hard so for the three-week stretch of The Broadsheet Bar, we’ve teamed up with Schweppes to offer one-hour Cocktail Masterclasses every Sunday.
Hosted by our resident bartender and regular contributor Dave Kerr, participants will be guided through making their own drinks, unlocking the mysteries of correct shaking, stirring and building techniques. Every class we’ll have a different theme, with classic and modern drinks highlighted. Working together, pairs will mix their drinks from scratch, and have more than a few taste tests of course.
Once these basic skills are mastered, Dave and the class will explore the broader skills of mixing drinks and, most importantly, balancing flavours and utilising what you have at home to make great drinks. Take home recipes and utensils as part of the package, not to mention the skills to impress at your next party.
It all starts this Sunday at The Broadsheet Bar, with three sessions from 2.30pm onwards. This week the themes are Group Serves, Winter Warmers and Cuban Classic, but each session will also have the chance to choose the cocktails you want to learn.
