Features
Nabo, Danish for “neighbour”, is a corner-side Kingsville cafe that lives up to that name. Warm timber tones, low-hanging lights and shelves of house-made preserves set a cosy Scandinavian-inspired feel.
The menu is mostly vegetarian and driven by what’s fresh and in season. You’ll find Daylesford’s Honest Eggs, Cobb Lane sourdough, Market Lane coffee, and nut creams and jams made in-house. Regulars often drop off backyard fruit and veg, which make their way into dishes.
Those might be smorrebrod (a Danish open-faced sandwich) topped with pickled watermelon and nasturtium; stewed rhubarb, apple and ginger porridge; potato waffles; or roasted mushrooms with harissa oil, leek and crispy kale.
Rotating tarts are nostalgic and Nordic-style, incorporating spices, poached stone fruits and flavours like rhubarb, lemon and fennel. There might also be jam doughnuts filled with fig leaf custard and quince jam.
