Entering Mastic is like walking into a Piet Mondrian sports den. It has brightly coloured ping-pong tables and bats stacked on the wall. Raw desserts are served on table tennis paddles and the place is half full of people in exercise gear.

An extension of Hellenic Republic, Mastic was originally slated to be a Greek sweets bakery. Following owner George Calombaris’ health kick, he decided to express his new passion for healthy whole foods through the cafe, named after a plant resin.

Breakfast salads, green smoothies and superfood bowls such as goji-berry granola or chia-seed pudding suit the clean and active space. Brunch offers a gluten-free twist and the Will & Co coffee is available with a list of alternative milks.

Kombucha, kefir and kimchi are provided by The Fermentary, for a probiotic boost to your system. House-made raw treats, such as creamy lime cheesecake and gooey peanut-choc slices, are made without refined sugars and flour.

Hellenic takes over the cafe space when it shuts at 4pm. That's unless Heston Blumenthal and George decide to play a friendly game of table tennis. True story.
