Innocent Bystander moved out of Giant Steps’ cellar door and restaurant and into its own place next door in 2017. The former White Rabbit brewery now houses a vast casual dining space, a wine shop and a 15-metre stone bar.

All wines are stored in kegs and poured from copper taps into glasses, carafes or conical flasks for a tasting paddle.

The Yarra Valley is known for its pinot, so try a noir and a gris. If you like sweet wines, throw in a glass of Innocent Bystander’s signature florescent pink moscato for dessert – you’ll see it in champagne flutes on almost every table.

Local Hargreaves Hill beers and ciders are also on tap; and there’s a handful of spirits, including Four Pillars gin made around the corner.

The menu focuses on pizza and paella, with a few sides and cheese boards. Try the spicy pork pizza with San Marzano tomatoes, smoked mozzarella, spiced ground pork, roast red capsicum and fresh green chilli, which is added once the pizza’s out of the wood-fired oven for maximum spice.

Save room for the restaurant’s version of a bread and butter pud – brioche and butterscotch pudding with vanilla gelato, or a couple of baby waffle cones with lemon meringue or tiramisu filling.
