Leisurely sipping lo-fi Spanish wines with a side of tapas is the usual pace at Tinto. The Hawthorn tapas and wine bar – co-owned by Luca Balbo ( Park Street Pasta & Wine ) – is warm and rustic with timber finishes, a gas fireplace and vintage prints lining the walls.
The Iberian menu starts with pintxos and tapas. For a quick round, go for the anchoa, santona brown anchovies with smoked butter cream cheese atop flatbread; three-month-cured fried sobrasada sandwiched between honey-cured yolk mousse and whipped goat’s cheese; or glazed lamb ribs topped with quiquirimichi de guindilla and Jerusalem artichoke chips.
Move onto larger sharing plates known as raciones, including coffee-crusted steak in a creamy pink pepper sauce, topped with jamon iberico; and galician octopus served with kipfler potatoes and deviled egg emulsion. There’s also paella which takes about 30 minutes to prepare. Pick between a chicken and chorizo version featuring saffron rice or a traditional seafood option.
