Rolling out and serving up all over town, Melbourne’s fleet of food trucks represent a new generation of dining. Communicating with their legion of followers through social media, the trucks set up shop at different sites all over town, every day of the week. It’s an ever-expanding menu, too – from burgers and po’ boys to authentic Indian curries and Vietnamese Banh Mi. Here are our picks.
The humble hamburger has seen a great renaissance over the past couple of years – not that it ever went away. The new wave of burgers are a breed apart from their mass-produced forebears – organic, free-range patties, golden brioche buns, house-made pickles and flavour to spare. One constant is these delicious meals can be held in your two hands. Do you want fries with that? Of course you do.
Sometimes, beer and wine just don't cut it. In those times, you need cocktails. Be it a well-made Negroni, or a complex, multi-layered sipper, Melbourne has a wealth of places to partake.
These are our favourites, ranging from casual spots, to table service venues where the staff wear waistcoats. But without fail, they all know their spirits.
