A new wave of food trucks rolled into town around the start of the 2010s. Combining good food with attractive branding, the likes of Beatbox Kitchen, Taco Truck, Cornutopia and Mr Burger changed our idea of what a food truck could be.

These days there are hundreds of these mobile restaurants. They show up at the tennis, festivals, night markets and beside parks – basically anywhere outdoors and fun. And more recently, they’ve begun congregating at dedicated food truck parks, which typically centre around a permanent bar.

Mashing up the beer garden with the food court, these parks are a great option next time the weather’s nice and you’re looking to head out. The vibe’s always relaxed and everyone gets to eat and drink whatever they feel like. Just make sure you always leave someone at the table so your seats don’t get taken.

Looking for something specific?

  • Your favourite northside block party, every day of the week. Choose your own adventure across a handful of rotating food trucks, more than 35 beer taps and 699 of your closest friends. You might find beef barbacoa from a Mexican taqueria, jumbo potato cakes doused in garlic butter, or crisp tempura oyster mushroom burgers. Plus, there’s a games arcade, DJs and trivia nights.

  • Once an old car-wrecking site, now a buzzing, all-in-one food truck park in the backstreets of Mordialloc. Head to one of the rotating food trucks or the health-food cafe for nourishing food. And save the best sip for last with a trip to St Felix’s fruit-based distillery, which has a knack for brandy and punchy gin.

  • This westside food hub feels a lot like a food festival – except it's permanent. Visit for gelato bubble waffles, lobster rolls, crunchy That’s Amore cannoli, pierogi and more. Plus, it’s got three bars and a deck on the Yarra River with city views. Entry is $4 for adults and free for kids under 12.

  • Here you’ll find 4 Pines beer brewed specially for the space, as well as food trucks with an ever-rotating selection of burgers, bao, and woodfired pizza. And it’s dog friendly, too.
