Grampians Estate

Grampians Estate owes its success to two unique vineyards. The first is a smaller plot with shiraz and chardonnay near Mafeking, on the edge of the Grampians National Park. The second is larger, with riesling and 130-year-old shiraz vines on St Ethel’s Road, near the centre of Great Western. You can’t argue with the results: there’s a reason this winery has won so many Halliday awards.

These different soil types and grape-growing conditions inform the estate’s celebrated range. And while owners Tom and Sarah Guthrie champion shiraz, chardonnay and riesling – in step with the the Grampians’ bright afternoons and woolly evenings – they also produce Spanish varietals such as tempranillo and grenache, usually found in balmier climates.

The cellar door is at the main vineyard in Great Western. Not only is it the best place to try the estate’s award-winning drops, it’s also a picturesque setting for lunch, sweets, and quality coffee by Veneziano.

Share platters of regional produce star local charcuterie, Great Ocean Road and Milawa cheeses, Five Ducks chutneys and jams, and sourdough by the Great Western Granary. A selection of tarts and terrines, local olives and ice-cream from the Timboon ice-creamery will complete your spread among the lush, undulating vineyards.
