The former army camp of Bonegilla, 12km east of Wodonga, was where new migrants arrived after World War II and got their first taste of Australian life.

More than 300,000 new migrants spent time at this reception and training centre between 1947 and 1971. It was the longest operating post-war immigration centre in Australia and could house 8,000 people at one time. It’s estimated that one in 20 Australians have family links to Bonegilla. The centre is now a museum and place of reflection – well worth a visit.
