When it closed in early 2019, Footscray pub The Reverence left a gaping hole in the west-side’s live music scene. For six years, it was an essential venue for the punk, indie and metal scenes, loved also for its cheap tacos and trivia nights.

Good news: The Rev is coming back, and it might end up being better than it ever was. The tacos are even staying on. CBD rock’n’roll icon Cherry Bar announced on Facebook that it’s taken over the pub and re-christened it Hotel Westwood.

“Got some huge news for you Cherry Massive,” the post reads. “1.5 years ago the Cherry Bar owners took over the former Reverence Hotel (The Rev!) in Footscray.

“After an extensive renovation and a Covid nut-punch, we are finally ready to open to the public this Saturday 28 November from 12 noon as The Westwood Hotel [sic].

“In the near future we will host live bands in our dining room, in our band room and in our amazing beer garden (converted car park area) seven days a week!

“But for now, we’re just thrilled to be opening with tacos and cocktails outside.”

Initially all tables will be available for a maximum of 2.5 hours, with a minimum group size of two and maximum of 10. Walk-ins are welcome and the pub will begin accepting reservations soon.
