White Night has dropped its live-music program for 2016. This year, 220 artists will carry us into the early hours, with more than 100 hours of live music across four all-night stages.
The dusk-til-dawn line-up spans a range of musical genres, from swinging jazz and funk on Birrarung Marr and dance beats on Lonsdale Street, to luminescent classical landscapes over at St. Paul’s Cathedral.
Trip the Light Fantastic will set up camp on the banks of the Yarra at Birrarung Marr to host an all-night, open-air dance party. Expect a night of high-energy dance tunes from around the world, with performances from Lamine Sonko & The African Intelligence, Funk Buddies, Quarter Street, Sol Nation and more.
Stop by Bourke Street Mall for a night of jazz, soul, disco and funk. White Night-ers can get down with 12 hours of New Orleans street-party vibes from some of Melbourne’s most-prominent jazz and groove acts, including Horns of Leroy, Dig We Must and Kylie Auldist.
The Blues Speakeasy Stage brings the swing of the Prohibition era to Alexandra Gardens. Performances come from renowned blues musicians TK Reeve, The Screamin’ Honkies and Chris Russell’s Chicken Walk.
For larger-scale sensory immersion, try St. Paul’s Cathedral. Luminesce and Silver Rain: Illuminated Opera will fuse art and music to project an impressive visual soundscape. Classical Revolution invites you into its classical oasis, especially curated to match the motions of the night.
