For the next four weeks, dinner is on us. Enter our Table for Six competition just by being a subscriber to the Broadsheet Melbourne newsletter and you and your friends could win an all expenses paid table for six at one of the city’s best restaurants.
First up this week is The Aylesbury, the newly opened venture from the team at Gertrude Street’s Spanish stalwart, Anada. Similarly Spanish-leaning, The Aylesbury wages war on two fronts, with the downstairs dining room focused on killer produce and the rooftop bar the perfect spot for both pre and post-dinner drinks.
The upstairs bar is the place to begin your evening, on the balcony or inside the airy space, five storeys up with views over the greener parts of town. Cocktails are simple but classy, there are a number of local and imported wines by the glass and some truly tempting snacks to whet the appetite. Head downstairs to the spacious dining room for an Iberian-inspired dinner, heavy on local and organic produce. The focus is on the home grown and homemade – smoking, curing, baking and preserving all happen on site. Share raciones and larger plates or go full tilt with the feasting menu. Once you’ve had your fill, head back upstairs for more cocktails and the evening Melbourne skyline. That’s a table for six we know you want.
