With the mercury well and truly shot through the top of the thermometer, we’re all in need of a little refreshment. Thankfully, the guys at Schweppes Cocktail Revolution have us sorted. Over the last month we’ve seen a selection of refreshing summer drinks using sake, ice-cream and even scones – here are a few of our favourites.
One of the all-time favourites for summer is, of course, the mojito. Cuba’s drink of choice, the classic combination of white rum, soda, sugar, mint and loads of lime is unbeatable. But a change is as good as a holiday, so here are three unorthodox mojito recipes to refresh yourself with.
Lemonade scones with jam and cream is the kind of childhood treat you’ll always remember fondly. The Cocktail Revolution has improved on the classic picnic food by substituting a cup of milky Twining’s for an Earl Grey and gin iced tea. You can still have the scones.
Another nostalgic summer treat is the classic ice-cream spider. It’s a simple pleasure: simply pour a bottle of Schweppes over a decent scoop of ice-cream and bung in a straw. But, let’s face it: that doesn’t cut it anymore. So, we decided to jazz up the spider for this summer: her name is Suzette.
As part of the Cocktail Revolution’s relentless search for great drinks, it’s always on the lookout for inspiration. During some research in downtown Hanoi, the team discovered what is unquestionably one of the best cocktail bars in the city.
There’s no rule that says you’re obliged to drink sake warm in a tiny earthenware cup – in fact, its refreshingly dry palate and fruity notes make it the perfect ingredient when you’re mixing a cocktail.
Sweetened Condensed Milk is a delicious guilty pleasure, and it’s nice to have an excuse to crack open a tin so you can dip a finger and enjoy something sweet and indulgent.
