Following a 12 month renovation, iconic Church Street pub Half Moon has re-opened its doors, providing classic pub fare with a sophisticated twist for hungry Bayside locals.
Originally opened in the mid 60s under the moniker Hotel Central, the new Half Moon opened its doors some six weeks ago as a modern hotspot that still pays homage to its original open layout. Run by Colonial Leisure Group (purveyor of many other known Melbourne restaurants including The Botanical and Lamaro’s), the space retains its original façade while the interior has been gutted and replaced with six drinking and dining areas spanning two levels, rather like a playground for grown-ups.
To compliment the extensive and impressive wine and beer list is an amazing array of food, available for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The selection is much loved pub grub, made using fresh, premium, local and regional produce. The original parma is created using organic chicken, free range black pig leg ham and buffalo mozzarella; crumbed flat head fillets are served with a side of mushy peas and crinkle cut chips; and of course a traditional steak, consisting of char grilled Hopkins River scotch fillet with mixed sautéed mushrooms, onion rings and Béarnaise sauce.
