• There’s now a cafe dedicated to toasties. They all come oozing with double-cheese (and you can opt to have them cooked in duck fat, too). It’s pretty fun.

• Chef Scott Pickett (ESP, Estelle Bistro and Saint Crispin) is opening a new deli and rotisserie at the Queen Vic Market on the corner of Therry Street.

• The newly opened North Melbourne Hotel doesn’t hold back on frou-frou, but the food and booze are affordable pleasures.

New cafe Club Social has opened in Prahran – just look for the neon egg, sunny-side up.

• Carlton North has a sweet new Turkish cafe, Babajan, serving rustic meals with a contemporary twist.

The Flour Market’s winter edition comes to Collingwood this weekend, with Sydney favourite Black Star Pastry making a special appearance.

• Fitzroy’s sorry to see craft-beer bar Two Row close, but it’s not all bad news. Specialty retailer and bar Slowbeer take its place.
